McLaren driver Lando Norris claimed pole position for the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix on Saturday, beating Mercedes driver George Russell in a wet qualifying session in Sao Paulo. Norris secured the top spot during a Q3 shootout on intermediate tires with a lap time of 1m27.470s. The session at Interlagos faced significant interruptions, including an initial delay of more than an hour and twenty minutes during Q1 due to heavy downpours and standing water.
Russell finished second, two tenths behind Norris, but carries a five-place grid penalty for a power unit change. Kimi Antonelli placed third, while fourth-placed Charles Leclerc faces a 10-place engine penalty, promoting fifth-placed Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson to third on Sunday's starting grid. Multiple contenders faced early setbacks, with Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri eliminated in Q2, while Max Verstappen ended up 16th following an engine penalty.
