Toto Wolff has clarified his opposition to proposed changes to the Formula 1 cost cap by Williams team principal James Vowles.

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has expressed clear opposition to proposed changes to the Formula 1 cost cap advocated by Williams Team Principal James Vowles. Vowles suggested allowing lower-ranking teams greater financial allowances than championship winners, a concept Wolff rejected by comparing balance-of-performance adjustments to a "red mist."
Wolff argued that teams must find the right balance rather than undoing recent financial regulations. Instead, he expressed a preference for cost cap adjustments that raise salary brackets for skilled staff, noting that current restrictions suppress wages and drive top engineering talent away from motorsport.
