The Phillies are going to dig a little deeper in their managerial search.

Former Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has informed the Philadelphia Phillies that he will not join the team and plans to sit out the 2027 season. Cora's decision reportedly centers around family reasons, including an upcoming wedding in November. He is owed over $7 million by the Red Sox in 2027 following his dismissal from Boston earlier in 2026.
This marks the second time this year Cora has turned down the Phillies and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. After firing Rob Thomson, Philadelphia previously appointed Don Mattingly as interim manager, and reporting suggests Mattingly could possibly return to manage the Phillies for the upcoming season.
