The Athletic's Mitch Bannon clarified on October 11, 2026, that recent discussions involving former Toronto Blue Jays players Kevin Pillar and Ricky Romero were not advocating for an Alejandro Kirk trade. After an online clip gained traction suggesting Kirk was a prime trade chip following a missed postseason in 2026, Bannon stated that all three agreed Toronto should not trade the All-Star catcher.
Heavy contributor Billy Heyen notes that Kirk fits the Blue Jays' offensive profile and remains signed through 2030 on a four-year, $49.3 million contract paying $12.325 million annually. With Kirk locked under team control at a reasonable salary, Heyen argues it is unlikely Toronto will move him as they retool for next season.
