The start of Caleb Durbin's time in Boston wasn't smooth, but his play style and a midseason turnaround won him fans in a "gritty city" he has grown to love.
Boston Red Sox infielder Caleb Durbin has developed into a fan favorite during his first season with the club after overcoming a difficult early-season slump. Acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in February, the 26-year-old drew comparisons to Dustin Pedroia for his gritty style of play. Despite early struggles that included hitting .172 in April, Durbin turned his campaign around with a midsummer surge.
Between June 10 and August 13, Durbin batted .311 with 11 home runs and 37 doubles across 55 games. He also earned respect inside the clubhouse by playing through a dislocated left pinkie finger suffered on June 24 in Denver.
