Willson returns to lineup, hopeful for WC Series; Gasper, Guerrero placed on IL

Willson Contreras returned to the Boston Red Sox's lineup on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs at Tropicana Field after missing eight games with a right hand injury. Serving as designated hitter, his return opens the possibility that he will be active for the American League Wild Card Series against the New York Yankees starting Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.

Contreras was batting .276 with 27 home runs and 81 RBIs prior to his injury on September 17. Meanwhile, the Red Sox placed Mickey Gasper on the 10-day injured list with a right biceps strain and placed pitcher Tyron Guerrero on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.
