Boston Red Sox pitcher Sonny Gray voiced frustration after manager Chad Tracy removed him in the fifth inning of a 9-2 season-ending loss to the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series on Wednesday. Gray was pulled with two outs and two runners on while trailing 1-0, expressing that he wanted Tracy to live or die with him on the mound against Cody Bellinger.
Reliever Erik Miller replaced Gray and allowed an RBI single as Boston's deficit grew. Gray, an impending free agent who is contemplating retirement after his 14th major league season, noted he will avoid making any rash decisions regarding his future.
