Red Sox slugger Willson Contreras said, "At the end of the day, it’s not about data. It’s about executing the game plan."

Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras stated that relying on data and computers is "not enough" after the team was swept by the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Series. Boston suffered a 9-2 defeat in Game 2 on Wednesday, scoring just two runs while conceding 18 across the two-game series. Contreras stressed that the club requires veteran experience, execution, and overall improvement to succeed in the postseason.
Contreras expressed willingness to discuss analytics with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, while noting that players are ultimately responsible for on-field execution. The Red Sox struggled late in the year, ranking last in MLB with a .219 batting average in September, and their bullpen surrendered 15 earned runs across 6 ⅔ innings during the wild-card sweep.
