Report: White Sox Assistant GM Josh Barfield is among candidates for Astros GM job

Chicago White Sox assistant general manager Josh Barfield is among several candidates in the running for the Houston Astros' vacant general manager position, according to a report from Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Other executives drawing serious interest include Randy Flores, Matt Kleine, Scott Sharp, and Ben Sestanovich. Houston is reportedly trending toward making an official decision before the conclusion of the World Series.

Barfield joined the White Sox in September 2023 after serving as the Arizona Diamondbacks' director of player development. He previously withdrew from consideration for a front-office role with the Baltimore Orioles last offseason. His potential departure follows a strong season in which Chicago finished just one win short of reaching the American League Championship Series.
