Nationals To Acquire Reiver Sanmartin

The Washington Nationals have acquired left-handed reliever Reiver Sanmartin from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Robert Cranz. San Francisco had designated Sanmartin for assignment earlier in the week to clear 40-man roster space for players returning from the 60-day injured list. Because Sanmartin is out of minor league options, he must make Washington's major league roster next spring or face waivers again.

Sanmartin posted a 4.22 ERA across 21 1/3 innings for the Giants this past season and remains under club control for four more years. In return, San Francisco received Cranz, a 23-year-old 2024 seventh-round draft pick who reached Triple-A in 2026 and features a fastball reaching 95 mph.
