The SF Giants burned through their catcher depth in 2027 which led to a reunion with Andrew Knizner. Could they bring him back in 2027 as well?

Around the Foghorn's Nick San Miguel reviews catcher Andrew Knizner's unexpected return to the San Francisco Giants during the 2026 season. San Francisco faced significant depth issues after trading Patrick Bailey, compounded by injuries to catchers Daniel Susac and Jesus Rodriguez. Knizner rejoined the Giants after opting out of a minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox, ultimately sharing catching duties alongside rookie Drew Cavanaugh for the final stretch.
Over 29 games in 2026, Knizner batted .219 with two home runs and four runs batted in. Following the season, San Francisco placed him on waivers and outrighted him to Triple-A after going unclaimed. San Miguel notes Knizner can elect free agency, though a return on a minor-league contract for 2027 remains possible.
