Giancarlo Stanton’s mind has consistently said one thing, his body another.

Giancarlo Stanton faces an uncertain future with the New York Yankees heading into 2027 following an injury-plagued season. The designated hitter was limited to 24 games and 96 plate appearances in 2026 due to three separate calf strains. The Yankees owe Stanton $15 million of his $25 million salary for 2027, with the Marlins paying the remaining $10 million, making an immediate release unlikely before spring training.
General manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone praised Stanton's leadership and work ethic but noted that designated hitter at-bats will be contested. With Ben Rice, Luis García Jr., and potentially Aaron Judge needing time at designated hitter, Stanton will have to prove his health and effectiveness to secure playing time once camp opens.
