Paul Elliott was one victory away from the biggest moment of his career, but Shamil Erdogan ensured it never arrived at ONE Fight Night 48.

Undefeated Turkish heavyweight Shamil Erdogan defeated Britain's Paul Elliott by second-round submission in the main event of ONE Fight Night 48 at Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium on Saturday. The loss ended Elliott's bid to earn a shot at the vacant ONE Heavyweight MMA World Championship.
Erdogan used his wrestling background to control the opening round on the canvas before Elliott briefly countered with strikes in the second. Erdogan responded with another takedown, advancing position before securing a rear-naked choke to force the tap at 2:28 of round two and improve his record to 14-0.
