The Trail Blazers should trade for Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III to help balance this roster.

Reese Kunz of Rip City Project argues that the Portland Trail Blazers should revisit trade discussions for New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III to balance their roster. Following a crowded backcourt setup with Ja Morant and Damian Lillard, Portland enters the 2026-27 season aiming for 50-plus wins and a top-four seed in the Western Conference, but Kunz believes roster fit remains a primary concern.
Kunz suggests Murphy would provide an ideal 3-and-D upgrade alongside Toumani Camara and Deni Avdija, allowing the Blazers to improve wing depth without requiring excessive ball usage. Although Kunz acknowledges the Pelicans are currently hesitant to trade Murphy, he contends Portland should monitor the situation ahead of the trade deadline if New Orleans struggles.
