Avalanche testing a desperate measure to fix their power play

The Colorado Avalanche are adjusting their power play units during practice ahead of the new season. Following a regular season where they won the Presidents' Trophy but ranked 27th in the NHL with a 17.1% power play conversion rate, the team has inserted forward Nicolas Roy into one of the top units.

Roy has accumulated 11 power play goals and 14 power play assists across nine seasons. Practice reports indicated that Colorado's first power play unit featured Roy alongside Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Martin Necas, and Gabriel Landeskog.
