Dallas bolsters its forward depth with a low-risk gamble, betting that the seasoned Stanley Cup champion still has enough offensive spark to provide a cheap scoring punch.

The Dallas Stars have signed veteran winger David Perron to a one-year, pro-rated contract worth $850,000, according to multiple reports. The agreement means Dallas will pay the 38-year-old forward only a portion of the value based on his active roster time.
Perron enters his 20th NHL season after splitting the previous campaign between the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings, tallying 28 total points in 61 appearances. The signing bolsters Dallas's forward depth at low risk.
