Habs Daily: Slafkovsky’s Beautiful Goal, Engstrom’s Stats, Markov

Juraj Slafkovsky scored an impressive highlight-reel goal after getting past Darnell Nurse, but the Montreal Canadiens suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to the visiting team despite goals from first-line forwards Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Slafkovsky. Former Canadiens standout defenceman Andrei Markov attended the matchup ahead of the Heritage Classic in Winnipeg.

Marc Dumont highlights that defenceman Adam Engstrom holds strong underlying metrics, leading all Montreal blueliners in expected goals for percentage (xGF%). Additionally, Dumont notes that head coach Martin St-Louis has seen encouraging early defensive returns by pairing Lane Hutson on the top defensive unit and Engstrom on the third pairing.
