The Story in 60 Seconds

The New York Rangers have signed veteran goaltender James Reimer to a one-year, $850,000 league minimum contract. The 38-year-old was initially released from an AHL professional tryout with the Hartford Wolf Pack before finalizing the NHL deal. The move addresses the Rangers' depth needs following a season-ending injury to primary goaltender Igor Shesterkin.

With rookie Dylan Garand serving as the starting goaltender, New York acquired Reimer to manage Garand's workload and provide experienced depth. Across a 16-season NHL career that includes stints with Toronto, San Jose, Florida, Carolina, Detroit, Anaheim, Buffalo, and Ottawa, Reimer holds a 232-191-67 record.
