Tampa Bay Lightning winger Brandon Hagel has made a name for himself the past few years, but when he arrived in Tampa back in 2022, he was stepping into a group where he barely knew anyone.

Tampa Bay Lightning winger Brandon Hagel has transitioned from an observant newcomer in 2022 into an emotional leader for the team. Hagel credited past experiences watching elite captains like Steven Stamkos, Patrick Kane, and Jonathan Toews for shaping his approach. With former veteran leaders departing, Hagel has stepped forward to set the tone, hold teammates accountable, and take on greater responsibility.
Hagel's leadership was highlighted during a playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens, where he encouraged teammate Gage Goncalves before an overtime winner. Ahead of the 2026-27 season opener against the New York Rangers, Hagel emphasized that the team's postseason ambitions will ultimately depend on the accountability and drive of the players inside the dressing room.
