MONTREAL — The Winnipeg Jets are learning some painful lessons these days. But two players have been particularly studious during the early stages of the season, and not necessarily in ways you’d expect at the NHL level.

Winnipeg Jets rookies Viggo Björck and Tyrel Bauer are adopting studious approaches to their development during the early part of the NHL season. Björck, an 18-year-old forward selected eighth overall, is balancing his rookie campaign with completing his Grade 12 Swedish high school coursework remotely. Meanwhile, 24-year-old defenseman Bauer uses his time as a healthy scratch in the press box to handwrite analytical notes and game observations.
Jets head coach Scott Arniel praised Björck's dedication to both his studies and hockey, moving him to wing to ease his transition against elite opponents. Bauer, who has also been used at forward recently, explained that his long-time habit of journaling and taking notes helps him analyze positioning and maintain personal focus at the professional level.
