AC Milan have condemned the serious and unacceptable racist abuse directed at goalkeeper Mike Maignan on social media following their 3-0 Europa League defeat against Bournemouth on Thursday. The Italian club issued a statement expressing full solidarity and support for the French goalkeeper, reiterating that racism and discrimination have no place in sport.
Maignan received a 27th-minute red card for pushing Tyler Adams, after which Marcus Tavernier scored a penalty to help Bournemouth secure the victory. Maignan stated online that the incident was unintentional, and Milan urged supporters to react with dignity and mutual respect.
