Steele was originally called into the squad following an injury to Dean Henderson and was on the bench for England's recent 3-2 defeat to Spain.

Tuchel explained that James Trafford will retain the starting spot for the match in Prague, with Jordan Pickford also remaining on the bench. The manager stated the selection decision was planned in advance to evaluate Trafford across consecutive matches rather than as a reaction to the defeat against Spain.
