The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team’s weekend at the Marina Bay Street Circuit has officially gone from bad to worse.A 60-place demotion for RussellAccording to the official FIA ruling, George Russell has been slapped with an additional 20-place grid penalty…

Mercedes driver George Russell was handed an additional 20-place grid penalty ahead of the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix, bringing his total grid demotion to 60 positions. The punishment followed the installation of a fourth Energy Store and Control Electronics Unit in his W17 during qualifying, which breached Formula 1 power unit allocation regulations.
Russell had already received an initial 40-place drop due to power unit component changes after an engine failure in Sepang. Despite qualifying sixth and facing a massive penalty, Russell will start the race from 19th on the grid rather than 22nd, as Isack Hadjar, Fernando Alonso, and Lance Stroll must start from the pitlane for parc fermé violations.
