The Chicago White Sox defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3-0 in Game 1 of the ALDS, powered by historic performances from pitchers Hagen Smith and Grant Taylor. Rookie starter Hagen Smith pitched 2.2 hitless, scoreless innings, becoming the first rookie in MLB history to start multiple Game 1 matchups in a single postseason. Offensively, Munetaka Murakami hit a two-run homer and Colson Montgomery added an RBI double.

Reliever Grant Taylor completed the historic night by earning a four-inning save, striking out six while conceding just two hits. Taylor became the first MLB pitcher since Lance McCullers Jr. in 2017 to record a four-inning postseason save, and only the sixth player to accomplish the feat since 1969.
