Ottawa Senators forward William Eklund suffered an apparent leg injury during the team's home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers. Eklund went hard into the corner boards while racing Flyers defenseman Simon Benoit with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first period. He required assistance off the ice while putting no weight on his left leg, and reporter Bruce Garrioch confirmed he would not return to the game.
Eklund was acquired by Ottawa from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the 2026 ninth-overall draft pick and had been skating in top-six roles. While the full severity of the injury remains unknown, the writer notes Ottawa may need to rely on forward depth, including Shane Pinto and the nearing return of Andre Burakovsky, should Eklund miss extended time.
